Isaac Esch is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Business, Class of 2021. He interned in Business Development for eNano Health Limited in Hong Kong in the Summer 2019 Cohort. They specialize in self-health management and fast screening of multiple diseases. While Isaac interned for the three months, he also took time to explore and enjoy his time abroad. Here are some of his highlights!
10K MIDSUMMER RACE
I signed up for the Hong Kong Midsummer Race expecting to race with casual runners on a moderate terrain. I showed up to find a group of professional-looking local runners and a treacherous off-road racepath. The race started on a muddy single lane trail with a 15 foot drop off immediately to our right. The first 3 miles were spent climbing a 65-degree slope followed by a slippery downward path for the rest of the run. After barely surviving the run, I was greeted at the finish line with watermelon and ended up meeting some awesome Portuguese runners from Macau.
HONG KONG JUNK BOAT
For one of our final adventures in Hong Kong we rented a junk boat for the day. We took off from Sai Kung pier and went around to a quiet area outside the city. We played music, relaxed, and enjoyed lunch from the boat crew. The junk boat came with a speedboat for banana boating and wakeboarding, which we cruised around in for hours. The eight hour junk boat excursion flew by in minutes.
BASKETBALL IN THE CITY
The best street players meet daily in the heart of Hong Kong to compete at the Wan Chai basketball courts. Stefan, another HK Sage Corps fellow, and I took to the courts to see if we could compete. After 2 hours of intense basketball we came up with only one win and three losses. Stefan blames it on our teammates; I think he’s afraid to admit we underestimated the Wan Chai street game.
CHOI HUNG ESTATE
On top of a Choi Hung parking lot lies a famous Hong Kong view tourists come from all over to take pictures of. Four of us took a trip to see what the excitement was all about. We ended up meeting a solo Italian traveler who was also interning in Hong Kong for the summer. She had a quality camera, so she helped us capture the beauty of the Choi Hung Estate. Jing and Carrie made a dance cover with the beautiful backdrop, while Kyle and I took some Instagram worthy pictures.
