Barcelona has more to it than tapas and sandy beaches – in fact, it’s home to one of the world’s up-and-coming startup hubs. Particularly, Barcelona has become a favorite home for startups in the gaming, biotech, and pharmaceutical industries (but the list doesn’t end there!). Interns headed to Barcelona must work hard to scale one of the city’s 1,000+ budding startups – with still plenty of time on the weekends and after work to explore well-known landmarks, and an amazing food scene, and of course the beach.

- A-Champs is a sports tech company that leverages smart sensors with multi-sensory feedback to optimize both physical performance and mental focus. Designed for high-performance sports training, rehabilitation, and interactive fitness, their innovative solutions push the boundaries of athletic potential. The company is based in the iconic 1992 Barcelona Olympic Stadium, where it is an active member of a vibrant sports tech community. In the past, students have contributed to projects in UX/UI design, business development, and digital marketing.
- VRAIn develops cutting-edge 3D bioimaging software solutions for the MedTech and BioTech sectors, with a focus on digital health and medical devices. Located within the MediaTIC building, an architectural landmark in Barcelona’s 22@ innovation district, the company is at the heart of technological advancement. Computer Science and Data Analytics students have previously contributed to projects such as biomedical imaging segmentation.
- M.IA is a company that leverages AI to consolidate all your financial information in one place. By using AI agents for data analysis, it empowers entire teams to make data-driven decisions through natural language interfaces. Previous students have contributed to business development, focusing on growth across the EU, while another student supported digital marketing efforts by helping to shape the company’s marketing strategy.
How it Works
How does this program work?
- Apply on our Website – it’s free to start your application and apply in under 10 minutes.
- Interview with Sage Corps – we want to learn more about you and see if you are a good fit for the program.
- Accept Offer – Selected candidates will receive an offer to join our program. To accept, you will sign our enrollment agreement and make your initial program payment to secure your spot.
- Enroll in Skills Academy – You will start your hard and soft skill training online in your selected track to help prepare you for your internship.
- Interview with Startup – Based on your internship role and location preferences, we will match you with a startup for an interview.
- Pre-Departure Process – We will prepare you to go abroad. This means help with everything from applying for your visa to booking flights. We will book your housing and medical insurance for you.
- Intern Abroad – Arrive in Barcelona for your orientation program and then start your 8-week internship. You will attend included cultural activities with your cohort and our staff.
- Join our Alumni Network – after the program you join our alumni network with networking and career opportunities.
Eligibility
- 3.0 min GPA to apply*
- Currently enrolled university student or recent graduate
- All majors are eligible to apply
- All internships are conducted in English unless discussed otherwise
*If you fall below the GPA requirement you will be asked to provide an additional GPA statement.
Academic Credit
You have the option to receive academic credit for this program through our School of Record, Trinity. Students typically earn 6 credits and there is an additional cost for the transcript. Learn more.
Living in Barcelona
Sage Corps Orientation
Our orientation program is designed to acquaint you with your new home and prepare you to make the most out of your internship. You will meet your local staff and the other Sage Corps interns in your city cohort.
Cohort Events
You will meet with your cohort throughout the program to participate in cultural events. Our staff will plan an event schedule specific to your time in the city. Past cohorts attended activities such as visiting nearby beaches, Paella cooking class, a walking tour of the historical city center, climbing to the top of the Glories Tower, and getting lost in the maze of Barcelona, Labyrinth of Horta.
Housing
Your housing is pre-arranged as part of your program. All housing is shared apartment style accommodation with other Sage Corps interns in the city and near public transportation. Although placement locations vary, all housing is within commuting distance of your host company.
Local Staff
Your Barcelona City Managers are your go-to local staff during your time abroad. You will meet them upon arrival and they are there to support you as needed throughout the program.
Health & Safety
Sage Corps closely monitors students’ health and safety during our programming. We work with our international medical insurance provider, the U.S. State Department, local government authorities, and our in-country staff to ensure our students’ health and safety.

Funding your Program
There are a variety of ways Sage Corps applicants typically fund their program, from university grants, external scholarships, partial Sage Corps scholarships, and parental support. Many of our internship placements also provide a monthly stipend to help cover basic costs while abroad. Seniors and recent graduates are also eligible to participate in our Income Share Agreement and defer program payments. Learn more.
