University Spotlight: New York University

Located in the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant cities, New York University is an elite private research institution home to some of the nation’s brightest students.

This summer, one NYU student left the Big Apple for an adventure in the Lion city.

We’ve got all the details here.

Tommy Ng

Tommy is a sophomore majoring in Business. In Singapore, he interned at Glance Clock, the world’s first smart clock to display information from all your wearables, smart home devices, and web services.

Name one of your biggest wins of the summer.

One of my biggest wins this summer was bonding so quickly with my cohort as well as other students who lived in my hostel that also came to Singapore to intern or study.

Name one of the biggest challenges you successfully overcame this summer.

One of the biggest challenges I overcame was probably being away from my family for so long. Growing up in NYC and going to school at NYU makes it very easy to travel back home whenever I want, and I had never been away for more than a couple of weeks. So, Sage Corps gave me an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone. Meeting these awesome people in my cohort, some of whom happen to live really close to me in NYC, definitely made me forget about this, as they were my support system.

How has this experience helped you get closer to achieving your post-graduation/ career goals?

I worked closely with the CEO of the company and I noticed the characteristics he possesses that I need to adopt if I want to be a successful businessman in the future.

Why did you decide to participate in Sage Corps?

I decided to participate in Sage Corps simply because it was a chance to travel somewhere I had never been before and get some global work experience — which speaks volumes on my resume.

What’s the most fun/ coolest thing you did with your cohort this summer?

The coolest thing I did with my cohort has to be going to 1-Altitude, which is the highest al fresco bar in the world.

Upon graduation, Tommy isn’t sure what his exact career path will be. But, he does know that he wants to start a full-time position right away.

We’re so proud of all that Tommy accomplished this summer as a Sage Corps fellow!

(We’re also proud of him for being the co-winner of our Summer Photo Contest!)
